NYSE Morning Update 11/29/2013
a Ahead of the Bell: Dow futures are trading up 49 points and S&P futures are trading up 4 points indicating the S&P 500 Index may extend a record in today’s shortened trading session, before economic reports next week. Investors will await reports on manufacturing and home sales next week, and the November release of non-farm payrolls on Dec. 6. Janet Yellen, who will replace Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Fed, has said she will ensure monetary stimulus isn’t removed too soon to support economic recovery in the U.S. On the economic calendar today, no reports are scheduled to be released. Trading in the New York Stock Exchange will end at 1 p.m. local time today.The dollar is down against the major currencies. Gold is trading at $1,251. Crude oil is currently trading at $92 a barrel. Stocks rose on Wednesday as reports on consumer confidence beat estimates and jobless claims unexpectedly fell, while Treasuries slumped amid concern the Federal Reserve is closer to reducing stimulus.This morning on CNBC, Macy's CEO, Terry Lundgren, talked about "Black Friday" sales and an early opening. Lundgren said retailers are opening earlier to capture the younger shoppers. He is forecasting better than expected sales after surveying store associates and shoppers. Macy's decided to open earlier than last year because its what the customer wanted. The key is working collaboratively with the suppliers to get the merchandise in the stores. He pointed out, online business is growing very fast; people are buying items online and returning them in store locations, and buying something else.
